Commenting Rules

Hi all:

I get many comments here daily. Unless they add value to the site I mark them as spam.

Comments like “Great Post!!” serve no purpose beyond putting a back link on my site.

I am looking for comments that reference the post and add value. Please consider asking questions, or correcting me if I have said something you do not agree with. Start a conversation!

The key factor is relevance.

Regards

Bill

The Goal of Copywriting

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is the craft of writing copy, the use of words to promote a person, business, opinion or idea. A good copywriter is a skilled wordsmith with a flair for marketing psychology.

Speaking bluntly, copy is designed to capture and hold the attention of a visitor, to lead that visitor through a process of education and indoctrination, then to direct him or her to perform a required action in a low stress environment. This may be to press the buy-now button, to enter name and email address into the opt-in form or to join a membership list or indeed to do any other thing that the site owner desired.

Copywriting – Fair Value

What is copywriting? Copywriting is the words that are used to promote or describe a product, service, or person either in hard copy, as in a newspaper or magazine, or on a website. Copywriting is used to advertise the benefits of the services described.

As in any field there is good copywriting and bad copywriting. Anyone with the ability to string two words together can profess to be a copywriter. However, there is more to the game of copywriting than just writing words. If the copywriter is not totally conversant with the subject matter a certain amount of research needs to be done. Then the results of this research have to be written in such a way that the writer will not be accused of plagiarism, the content is informative, is readable, grammatically correct, and advertises the client’s product or services effectively by using keywords properly without overusing them. Improve Your Site Ranking – a great place to start

At Timely Copy we see many clients who approach us with a request to "improve their Search Engine ranking". They know that they need to "rank well to improve their traffic" but have little idea of how to achieve this. I will bet that this sounds familiar.

Many people view Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as an arcane art or a specialised branch of psychology. This is both true and false. At its simplest, SEO is feeding a set of programs owned by Google, Yahoo and Bing the information they need, so that you can look good in their robotic eyes. Professional SEO work is often needed to set you on the right path.

Perhaps your company has been considering doing something about their web site. They know that it is is not 100% and would like it improved. Or perhaps as a webmaster, you have been instructed to do some of that SEO stuff. Read the rest of this entry »

SEO Fads and the 80 / 20 rule

There are two types of SEO practitioner. Those who chase the fads and the “latest trick” and those that understand the system and use only time honoured methods. The parento principle which is known as the 80/20 rule applies strongly to Search Engine Optimization. This rule states that 80% of your gain comes from 20% of your effort.

We understand search engines and work with them. The concept of trying to constantly trick Google, Yahoo and MSN is very 80% on the work scale. There is a component of each search engine’s algorythm that changes constantly to foil the scammers and black hat operators.
20% of the effort returns 80% of the gain. To utilise this principle, we work with the search engines and our results speak for themselves. Read the rest of this entry »
