A lot of people find tofu hard to prepare. They don’t know what to do with it or how to cook it. Here are a few tips to get you going.
First method is marination. Marinating Tofu is simple. Create a marinade of Japanese soy sauce, mirin, rice wine vinegar and brown sugar. Slice the tofu and place into the marinade then in the fridge. Let it sit in there for about 30 mins. Take out and cook in butter and garlic until golden, turning halfway through so it is golden on both sides.
Second is frying. Slice then coat the tofu in a mixture of flour, salt and pepper. Fry in butter and garlic until golden. Turn half way though so that it is golden on both sides.
Third is in a stir fry. Cut the tofu as would you cut meat. Then cut up your other ingredients. In the stir fry cook the tofu as would you cook meat. Remember that tofu is softer than meat, so be gentle with it.
Tofu takes on the flavours that it is cooked with. Bear this in mind and you can’t go wrong.
