The awareness of the density of keywords is necessary as a discipline when writing and helps the copywriter to stay focussed on the requested direction.

There are many opinions about the “correct” density for SEO purposes. Obviously common sense has it that you cannot hope to rank for a keyword without that keyword appearing in your copy. The primary search engines vary in the keyword requirements for their algorithms. From tests it appears that between 3% and 5% is the sweet spot. Lower and you have little relevancy, higher and the copy is almost contaminated with the keywords.

Copy containing a higher frequency of keywords contains keywords repeated to a degree that the readability of the copy is considerably reduced by an excess of keywords.

As you see from the previous sentence stuffed with keywords, keywords in spammed articles are almost insulting to the intelligence to read, certainly they are forced and do not flow naturally.

Remember, even if you achieve position 1 on the page but annoy your visitors, they will not donate their funds to your wellbeing account.

The search engines all appear to agree that natural text and quality copy are their preference. They all say that they can easily detect attempted manipulation and will penalise anyone who attempts this. In a choice between natural style and forced content it is always better to opt for the quality approach and consider the experience of your customers.

On page SEO is important to produce a high traffic site but as the old saying goes – “Everything in moderation” keywords included.
