If the copy is created properly using the “Incomplete Answer” or “Not the Full Story” techniques, and the copy itself contains a link back to your blog … Get people interested in the subject and leave them dangling with only one lifeline visible.
This is a soft sell sales letter that has been virally placed on websites related to your product. I call this the Cuckoo technique after the bird that lays its eggs in other species nests.
So, here is how it works.
A visitor to a site owned by the competition comes across your article. He or she reads it and is interested in the message but cannot find full completion as there is always one more thing left or one mistake that can scupper all of your good work.
This subtly irritates the visitor – he or she needs to find the answer. The only option available to them is to use the link in the copy or at worst the links in your signature file to track down the answer.
